A sole winning lottery ticket in the US has packed away the whole million bonanza. The fortunate punter coordinated every one of the six numbers on their Powerball ticket which was sold in southern California. Lottery authorities said the most punctual the $447.8 million ticket could be recovered is 8am tomorrow.
The victor has one year to assert the prize which is the tenth biggest lottery prize in U.S. history, lottery authorities said Sunday.
Alcohol store proprietor Matthew Alberre said he doesn't know which of his clients won the bonanza or what his family will do with the $1 million "retailer reward" that lottery authorities said is put aside for the retailer offering the triumphant ticket.
Quote:“We’re so blessed for this to happen,” said Alberre, who owns the store with his father.
“Starting out the year it seemed like it was going to be the worst year in the world and six months later our store hit the Powerball. We’re very, very grateful for this to happen to our store,” Alberre said.
ABC news reports that Powerball representative Randy Miller said the assessed big stake prize depends on a champ picking an annuity, which pays off more than 29 years. The money prize would be $279.1 million. Both prize sums would be before expenses are deducted.
Prior to the drawing Saturday night the big stake was assessed at $435 million. The bonanza had developed in light of the fact that nobody had coordinated every one of the numbers since April 1.
The chances of winning Saturday's drawing were just a single in 292.2 million.
Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
