What is Marijuana (Weed): Everything You Need To Know About It
#1
Marijuana is a greenish-gray mixture of the dried flowers, leaves, stems and seeds of Cannabis sativa. Marijuana is usually rolled up in a cigarette (called a joint or a nail). It can also be brewed as a tea or mixed with food (edibles) such as brownies, cookies, or candies; or smoked through a water pipe called a bong. Vaporizers are also used to consume marijuana.

Stronger forms of marijuana include sinsemilla (from specially tended female plants) and concentrated resins containing high doses of marijuana’s active ingredients, including honey-like hash oil, waxy budder, and hard amber-like shatter. These resins are increasingly popular among those who use them both recreationally and medically.
Marijuana was recently legalized in the Washington and Colorado because of its medical and recreational uses, however, it can also be damage to our body and mind if care is not taken.
Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC, is a chemical that is found in varying potency in marijuana. THC is responsible for getting people high consuming or smoking marijuana. The chemical is found in the resin produced by the leaves and buds from the female cannabis plant. It should, however, be noted that the plant contains more than 500 other chemicals, which includes over 100 compounds that are chemically related to THC, called cannabinoids.
It should, however, be noted that most of THC’s effects happen in the brain, where the chemical interacts with receptors on brain cells called cannabinoid receptors. The human body actually makes chemicals very similar to THC, which is used in normal brain function and development. THC co-opts these natural pathways to produce most of its effects.
According to a National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, kids who frequently use marijuana are almost four times more likely to act violently or damage property. They are five times more likely to steal than those who do not use the drug.

Marijuana is often more effective today than it used to be. Growing techniques and selective use of seeds have produced a more powerful drug. Due to this fact, there has been a radical increase in the number of marijuana-related emergency room visits by young smokers.
For the sake of getting high Marijuana can lead users to consume stronger drugs to achieve the same high with marijuana. When the effects start to wear off, the person may turn to more potent drugs to rid himself of the unwanted conditions that prompted him to take marijuana in the first place.
It’s also noted that marijuana does not lead the consumer to the other drugs: consumers take drugs to get rid of unwanted situations or feelings. Marijuana masks the problem for a time (while the consumer is high). When the “high” fades, the problem, unwanted condition or situation returns more intensely than before. The user may then turn to stronger drugs since marijuana no longer “works.”

The technical term for marijuana is cannabis. Some terms like pot, hemp, herb, reefer, ganja, and weed refer to the substance itself. A higher potency form of marijuana is often called hashish or hash. Other words like joints, blunts, backwoods, buds, or bongs refer to the way that marijuana is smoked.
